2 Arrested in UK for Stabbing Death of Ex-Lostprophets Singer
British police have arrested two men on suspicion of murder after former Lostprophets singer Ian Watkins was stabbed to death in a northern English prison.
Ian Watkins, 48, was attacked with a knife at HMP Wakefield in West Yorkshire where he was serving a 29-year sentence for child sex offenses. Emergency services were called to the scene, but Watkins was pronounced dead.
West Yorkshire Police stated that a murder investigation is ongoing following the arrests of two men, aged 25 and 43.
In 2013, Watkins pleaded guilty to 13 charges, including attempting to rape a baby, sexually touching a 1-year-old, encouraging child abuse, and producing child pornography. During his sentencing, Judge John Royce described Watkins as a manipulative and dangerous sexual predator who had exploited his fame to fulfill his “insatiable lust.”
Lostprophets, the Welsh rock band fronted by Watkins, disbanded after his arrest. The band had achieved chart success in the U.K. with their third album, “Liberation Transmission.”
