49ers' McCaffrey Confident to Play Against Seahawks After Calf Scare
San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey stated that he is feeling well and intends to play in Sunday's season opener against the Seattle Seahawks despite a calf issue he experienced on Thursday.
McCaffrey did not practice with the team on Friday but engaged in individual activities with trainers on the side. Coach Kyle Shanahan mentioned that McCaffrey's status for Sunday's game was uncertain.
However, McCaffrey later reassured reporters, stating, "I feel great about where I'm at." He downplayed the injury, emphasizing that it was not serious and that he is focused on playing in the upcoming game against Seattle.
Last year, McCaffrey had a similar situation where he aimed to play in the season opener but ended up missing several games due to discomfort in his calf and Achilles area. Shanahan decided to keep him out of those games as a precaution.
McCaffrey explained that he removed himself from Thursday's practice as a precautionary measure, highlighting that he had been diligent in his training throughout the offseason and felt positive about his condition.
The 49ers made roster adjustments for Sunday's game, indicating their belief that McCaffrey will be available to play. If McCaffrey is unable to participate, Brian Robinson Jr. is likely to start in his place. Robinson has been working hard to learn the team's playbook and is making progress. Shanahan acknowledged that Robinson is still in the learning process but has shown improvement.
