Hollywood Star Portrays Young Anthony Bourdain in Biopic Filming

A Hollywood star took on the role of Anthony Bourdain while filming scenes for the upcoming biopic "Tony" earlier this week in Massachusetts. Dominic Sessa, 22, portrayed a younger version of the late celebrity chef on the set of the A24 project in Provincetown on Thursday. Bourdain, known for his work on shows like the Travel Channel's "No Reservations" and CNN's "Parts Unknown," passed away in 2018 at the age of 61.

Sessa was dressed in black flared trousers, a red button-up shirt layered with a black leather jacket, capturing the '70s time period. The actor, with brown curly hair, was filmed on a ferry engaging in conversation with another person while leaning against a railing as the ferry moved along the water.

The biopic is expected to focus on Bourdain's summer in 1976 in Provincetown, where he had his first experience in the restaurant industry. Antonio Banderas has also joined the cast, with the movie directed by Matt Johnson and a screenplay by Todd Bartels and Lou Howe.

Dominic Sessa began his film career with a role in "The Holdovers" in 2023 and has received recognition for his performances, including winning Best Young Performer at the Critics' Choice Awards. Bourdain, who started his career in the food industry while studying at Vassar College, reflected on his time in Provincetown in interviews, highlighting its significance in shaping his values and expectations.

Bourdain, who struggled with drug use in his youth, later became a renowned chef and author, penning books like "Kitchen Confidential: Adventures In The Culinary Underbelly." His television appearances, including hosting "Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations" and "Parts Unknown," brought him wider recognition. Tragically, Bourdain died by suicide in France at the age of 61 while filming "Parts Unknown."
