Anfield Pays Emotional Tribute to Jota

Liverpool secured a 4-2 victory over Bournemouth in their Premier League opener, with two late goals sealing the win. The match saw emotional tributes to the late Diogo Jota, who tragically passed away in a car crash in July at the age of 28, along with his brother Andre Silva, 25.

Liverpool winger Federico Chiesa dedicated the win to Jota, describing it as 'Diogo's day'. Chiesa scored the third goal in the 88th minute, with Mohamed Salah adding another in added time. Chiesa expressed his emotions, stating that the fans' support and chants for Jota throughout the match were very touching.

Before kick-off, a tribute was paid to Jota, with fans holding up a mosaic in the Kop and Sir Kenny Dalglish stand reading 'DJ20' and 'AS30'. The fans sang in tribute to Jota, and a flag in the Kop read 'Anfield will always be your home'.

Liverpool initially led 2-0 before Bournemouth's Antoine Semenyo scored twice to level the game. Reds boss Arne Slot praised the fans and players for their tribute to Jota, highlighting the powerful and impressive show of support. The players will wear a 'Forever 20' emblem on their shirts and stadium jackets throughout the season in honor of Jota.

A moment of silence will be observed at all Premier League matches this weekend, with players wearing black armbands. Messages and images will be displayed on big screens in stadiums to honor Jota. Liverpool decided to retire the number 20 shirt, which Jota wore during their title-winning season, after consulting with his family. Jota's former club Wolves also have tributes planned for their season opener.
