Animal farm in Flintshire faces water crisis; park transports water for 300+ animals.

An animal park in Mancot, Flintshire, faced challenges due to a burst water main that left them without water for three days. Greenacres Animal Park, run by a family, had to transport water to over 300 animals, including birds, camels, wolves, and highland cows, as they awaited the return of water supplies.

Beth Hall from the park expressed gratitude to the community for their support in providing water during the crisis. Welsh Water announced that repairs on the burst main in Broughton were completed on Friday, with water supplies expected to be restored to everyone by Sunday.

The water shortage caused by the burst main led to the postponement of two Cymru Premier matches. The incident affected thousands of residents and businesses in various areas, including Flint, Holywell, Ffynnongroyw, Greenfield, and others.

To cope with the water shortage, the animal park used a small utility vehicle to distribute water on-site. Beth mentioned that they were refilling containers with water from around 60 plastic bottles, acknowledging the challenge of managing the excess plastic waste generated in the process.

Despite efforts to contact Welsh Water for updates, Beth expressed frustration over the long wait times on the phone and the lack of information. The water company apologized for the inconvenience caused by the burst main, which required a complex repair process.

Welsh Water assured residents that they were working to restore water supplies promptly across 310 miles (500km) of pipes. Bottled water stations were set up in Flint, Shotton, and Mold to assist those affected by the water disruption.

As temperatures were expected to rise to 25C (77F) on Saturday, forecasters warned of a potential heatwave in parts of Wales, marking the fourth such event this year. The region had experienced one of the driest six-month periods in decades, leading to a declaration of drought.
