Blue Jays Lose Grip on AL Division Series Sweep
Toronto Blue Jays third baseman Addison Barger dropped a fly ball hit by New York Yankees’ Austin Wells during Game 3 of baseball’s American League Division Series on Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2025, in New York.
The Blue Jays were leading by five runs and on their way to a three-game sweep of the Yankees when errors by Isiah Kiner-Falefa and Addison Barger allowed the Yankees to come back and win 9-6. Aaron Judge and Jazz Chisholm Jr. hit home runs off Louis Varland to secure the victory.
The Blue Jays now lead the best-of-five series 2-1, with Game 4 scheduled at Yankee Stadium on Wednesday night. Blue Jays manager John Schneider criticized the team's errors, emphasizing the importance of avoiding mistakes against a strong opponent like the Yankees.
Varland, making his major league debut, gave up a three-run homer to Judge, which tied the score 6-6 in the fourth inning. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hit a two-run homer for the Blue Jays, but the team lost the lead and the game after being ahead by five runs.
Despite the disappointing loss, the Blue Jays remain focused on bouncing back in the next game to secure a spot in the AL Championship Series. The team is determined to learn from their mistakes and perform better in the upcoming games.
