Boston Celtics secure Chris Boucher on one-year deal
The Boston Celtics signed former Toronto Raptors center Chris Boucher to a one-year, $3.3 million contract, as reported by ESPN's Shams Charania. Boucher, who has faced the Celtics multiple times during his eight-year career, notably scored 30 points in a game against Boston in March 2021.
Having spent much of his early life in Canada, Boucher was part of the Raptors team that won the NBA title in 2019. He now joins the Celtics to provide frontcourt support after the team lost Kristaps Porzingis and Luke Kornet. Despite being 32 years old, Boucher is expected to contribute significant minutes off the bench for the Celtics.
The Celtics were able to add Boucher to their roster without exceeding the salary cap limits by trading Georges Niang to the Utah Jazz. This move leaves Boston approximately $1.7 million above the first apron and $9.4 million above the luxury tax line, according to Yossi Gozlan of The Third Apron.
