Boxer Ricky Hatton's Cause of Death Revealed
Former boxing world champion Ricky Hatton was found deceased by hanging, as revealed in an inquest at Stockport Coroner's Court. The 46-year-old is believed to have taken his own life. On 14 September, Hatton's manager, Paul Speak, discovered him unresponsive at home when he arrived to take him to Manchester Airport. Hatton was last seen on 12 September, appearing well, but failed to attend an event the next day. The brief inquest hearing on Thursday morning was attended by Mr. Speak, while Hatton's family was absent. The hearing was adjourned until 20 March.
In a Sky documentary in 2023, Hatton had discussed his personal life and ongoing mental health struggles. Known as "The Hitman," Hatton was a highly popular British boxer, with a large following who traveled to Las Vegas for his major fights. He secured the world title in 2005 by defeating Kostya Tszyu and faced boxing legends like Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao, though he ultimately suffered defeats. Despite retiring 13 years ago, Hatton announced in July his return for a bout in Dubai in December, the day he was found.
Last week, thousands gathered in Greater Manchester to pay their respects to Hatton, with notable figures like Liam Gallagher, Andrew Flintoff, Wayne Rooney, and Tyson Fury in attendance. At the service, Hatton's son Campbell, 24, expressed his deep loss and the end of making new memories with his father. Campbell described his father's passing as unexpected, mentioning their unfulfilled plans. The family, devastated by the loss, found solace in the overwhelming support and love from the public.
