Boxing Fans Outraged as Manny Pacquiao's Comeback Fight Ends in Draw
Boxing fans expressed disappointment on Saturday night as Manny Pacquiao's comeback fight at age 46 against Mario Barrios, 30, ended in a draw for the WBC welterweight title. The judges scored the bout 115-113 in favor of Barrios, with two scores of 114-114, resulting in a majority draw decision that allowed Barrios to keep the belt.
Some fans criticized the judges' decision, believing Pacquiao had won the fight easily. Pacquiao, a former world champion, had not fought in nearly four years but went the distance against Barrios. Despite Pacquiao's efforts, Barrios managed to retain his title with a strong performance in the final rounds.
Barrios, a 30-year-old boxer from San Antonio, was favored to win the fight. Although he did not secure a clear victory, he improved his record to 29-2-2. The audience, largely supporting Pacquiao, reacted with boos to the decision.
Pacquiao, known for his impressive boxing career with 12 world championships in eight divisions, now holds a record of 62-9-2. He hinted that this fight might not be his last, showing determination to continue competing in the sport. In another match, Sebastian Fundora retained his WBC super welterweight title by defeating Tim Tszyu, who did not come out for the eighth round. Fundora dominated the fight, landing 118 power punches and securing the victory.
