BTS Members Jimin & Jungkook in Disney+ Show, Jin to Carry Olympic Torch
K-pop group BTS is currently on hiatus, but its members remain busy with various projects.
Jimin and Jungkook, known as "Jikook," will star in a new travel show called "Are You Sure?!" premiering on Disney+ on Aug. 8. The series, announced by BTS' label Bighit Music and management company Hybe, will feature the duo exploring New York state, Jeju Island in South Korea, and Sapporo, Japan in eight episodes. The show aims to showcase their chemistry and friendship through memorable moments.
The travel show was filmed in 2023 before Jimin and Jungkook enlisted in the South Korean military in December. South Korean law requires male citizens aged 18 to 28 to serve at least 18 months in the military or social service. K-pop stars can delay their service until age 30 but are not exempt like Olympic medalists or prize-winning classical musicians.
Despite BTS' hiatus, members have continued to release music, with several solo hits reaching high chart positions. The group's management projects the hiatus to end in 2025. The impact of military service on artists has lessened with the service duration shortened, making it easier for artists to prepare for their return.
BTS member Jin recently completed his military service and made a comeback. He participated in BTS' 11th-anniversary celebrations by hugging 1,000 fans. Jin, also known as Kim Seok-jin, will take part in the Paris 2024 Olympic torch relay as a torchbearer from South Korea to promote "harmony" and "peace."
New episodes of "Are You Sure?!" will be released on Disney+ every Thursday from Aug. 8 to Sept. 19. The streaming service previously aired a BTS docuseries in 2023 and a concert film in 2022.
