Bundesliga Giants Mock Man United Before Champions League Draw

After Manchester United's defeat by Grimsby Town in the EFL Cup, their troubles continued on Wednesday night. The Red Devils were eliminated in the second round of the competition after losing on penalties to the fourth-tier team, following a 2-2 draw in regular time. This loss marked the first time United had been beaten by a League Two team in the EFL Cup.

The defeat added pressure on United's manager, Ruben Amorim, following a winless start to the Premier League season. This cup exit was considered their most embarrassing since a 4-0 loss to MK Dons in 2014. Ahead of the Champions League group stage draw, Bayer Leverkusen, managed by former United boss Erik ten Hag, mocked United on social media, expressing relief at not drawing Grimsby.

Bayer Leverkusen's actual Champions League opponents include Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester City, Villarreal, Benfica, PSV, Olympiacos, Newcastle United, and Copenhagen. United will not participate in European competitions this season after finishing 15th in the Premier League in 2024-25 and losing in the Europa League final to Tottenham. This season marks the first time since 2013-14 that United will not be in any European competition.

In other Premier League matchups, Liverpool will face Real Madrid, with Trent Alexander-Arnold returning to Anfield. Liverpool will also play against Inter Milan and Atletico Madrid. Manchester City will meet Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund, while Arsenal is set to play Bayern Munich, Inter Milan, and Atletico Madrid. Tottenham's notable matches will be against Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain.
