Chargers' Rashawn Slater out for 2025 season with patellar tendon tear
Los Angeles Chargers star left tackle Rashawn Slater will miss the 2025 season due to a torn patellar tendon sustained during practice, as announced by the team on Thursday.
Slater, who recently signed a four-year, $114 million contract extension, was injured during a team drill with limited players on the field. Andre James, Zion Johnson, Teair Tart, and Tuli Tuipulotu were also involved in the play.
After the injury, Slater was immediately attended to by trainers and teammates before being taken off the field. Joe Alt replaced Slater during the practice and is expected to fill the left tackle position for the upcoming season.
The Chargers' offensive line will undergo significant changes following Slater's injury, with Alt stepping in to maintain the team's strength in that area. The team's coaching staff expressed confidence in Alt's abilities to perform at left tackle.
In addition to Alt, Trey Pipkins III will likely play a key role in the offensive line setup. The Chargers have made adjustments to their lineup, aiming to enhance their performance in the upcoming season despite the setback caused by Slater's absence.
