Chelsea Considering Signing Barcelona Midfielder Fermin Lopez
Chelsea is considering a potential move for Barcelona midfielder Fermin Lopez, but there is currently no direct contact between the clubs. The Premier League team is in communication with the player's representatives as they look into attacking options due to Barcelona's depth in that position.
Fermin's contract with Barcelona runs until 2029, following a contract extension in October 2024. Despite being sidelined for over a month at the beginning of the 2024-25 season due to a thigh injury, the 22-year-old made 46 appearances during the season, mostly as a substitute, and contributed eight goals and 10 assists.
Fermin scored in three of Barcelona's last five matches of the season when the team secured the Spanish title. He joined Barcelona at the age of 12 from Real Betis and progressed through the club's La Masia academy. After a loan spell at Linares in the 2022-23 season, he earned a place in Barcelona's first team, scoring 11 goals in 43 appearances under Xavi.
Chelsea has made several additions to their squad this season, including Dario Essugo from Sporting CP as the only midfield signing. Meanwhile, midfielders Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Carney Chukwuemeka, and Lesley Ugochukwu have left Stamford Bridge on permanent deals.
Fermin made his debut for the Spanish national team in June 2024 and has appeared once more for the European champions. Barcelona's midfield options include Pedri, Frenkie de Jong, Dani Olmo, Marc Casado, and Gavi, with 18-year-old Marc Bernal set to return after a long absence due to an ACL injury.
