Chelsea discussing Marc Guiu's return with Sunderland

Chelsea is in discussions with Sunderland to bring back Marc Guiu from his loan at the Stadium of Light. Guiu joined Sunderland this transfer window on August 6.

The talks come after Chelsea striker Liam Delap got injured during a match against Fulham. Delap might be out for up to eight weeks, according to head coach Enzo Maresca.

Due to Delap's injury, Chelsea decided not to proceed with loaning Nicolas Jackson to Bayern Munich. Chelsea is now considering signing a new striker if Jackson leaves permanently.

Guiu, 19, has played for Sunderland in the Premier League and scored in a Carabao Cup match against Huddersfield Town. He joined Chelsea from Barcelona last summer and scored six goals in 16 appearances in the 2024-25 season.

Chelsea's move to potentially recall Guiu from his season-long loan at Sunderland is unexpected and raises questions as the transfer window nears its end.

Despite earlier plans for Jackson to join Bayern, Chelsea reversed the decision after Delap's injury. Bayern has now lost interest in Jackson, solidifying his return to Chelsea.

Guiu has made three appearances for Sunderland, scoring his first goal recently. Chelsea values Guiu highly and rejected offers to sell him permanently this summer to aid his development through regular game time.

Delap will undergo a scan for his hamstring injury soon. Having Jackson and Guiu back in the squad will provide adequate cover during his absence.
