Chelsea Manager Explores New Position for Star Player
Chelsea Boss Trials Player in New Position
Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has reportedly tested one of his players in a new position to accommodate the star.
Maresca, who took charge at Stamford Bridge last year, led the team to victory in the Conference League and back into the Champions League. However, with a large squad and new signings, some high-profile players have struggled for playing time.
One such player is French international Christopher Nkunku, signed for £53 million in 2023 after successful seasons with RB Leipzig. Hindered by a knee injury, he made only 14 appearances in his first season at Chelsea.
Reports suggest Maresca tried Nkunku as a defensive midfielder in training, possibly to assess his adaptability. Nkunku, who has seen limited game time, is likely to leave Chelsea this summer.
Nkunku, mainly used as a substitute last season, may be departing for a new club. French media indicate that Maresca's experiment with Nkunku in a different role could be a move to explore his capabilities in a defensive position.
The player is reportedly interested in leaving Chelsea to secure a spot in the French national team for the upcoming World Cup. Manchester United and Inter Milan have shown interest, but no formal offers have been made yet.
