Chiefs Gift Kid After Mahomes' Headband Stolen

A 10-year-old boy had Patrick Mahomes's headband taken from him, but the Kansas City Chiefs made amends by sending him a special gift package.

Joey Masters, a New York resident and avid Chiefs fan, received tickets to watch his favorite team play against the Giants at MetLife Stadium for his 10th birthday. After the Chiefs' 22-9 win, Mahomes tried to give Masters his headband, but a woman in the crowd snatched it, causing outrage online.

The Chiefs responded by sending Joey a collection of gifts, including a Chiefs headband worn by Mahomes and one signed by the quarterback. Joey also received a Mahomes No. 15 Kansas City jersey with the quarterback's autograph.

In a video shared on TikTok, Joey can be seen opening the box of gifts, which included Chiefs merchandise like a cap, flag, foam finger, and water bottle, along with confetti in the team's colors.

Joey expressed his desire to have the headband back, recounting the incident where the woman, later identified as Nina Miller, took it from him. Joey and his mother, Mindy, were at their first game together, seated in the front row behind the end zone.

Miller initially defended her actions but later apologized to Joey in a video, explaining that she thought Mahomes was giving her the headband. Despite receiving negative messages online, she expressed her intention to return the headband to Joey if she could reach him.

Tavia Hunt, the wife of Chiefs owner Clark Hunt, intervened to help locate Joey after seeing the video online. She asked her followers for help in identifying him and later confirmed that they had found him, hinting at surprises to come.

In similar incidents in the past, fans have faced backlash for taking items meant for young spectators at sporting events. The Chiefs' gesture towards Joey echoes previous efforts by sports teams to rectify such situations.
