
Coco Gauff stages impressive comeback at Canadian Open
Top seed Coco Gauff advanced to the fourth round of the Canadian Open in Montreal after defeating Veronika Kudermetova. Gauff came back from a set and a break down to win 4-6 7-5 6-2, marking her fifth consecutive appearance in the final 16 of the tournament.
Gauff will next face wildcard Victoria Mboko, who secured a 1-6 3-6 6-0 victory against Marie Bouzkova, guaranteeing Mboko a spot in the top 70 rankings.
In other matches, fourth seed Mirra Andreeva was eliminated by 28th seed McCartney Kessler, who will play against 27th seed Marta Kostyuk in the next round. Unseeded Zhu Lin of China also advanced to the fourth round after defeating Suzan Lamens 6-2 6-2.
In the men's draw in Toronto, Alexander Zverev won his 500th tour-level match by defeating Matteo Arnaldi 6-7 (5-7) 6-3 6-2. Zverev expressed his satisfaction with the milestone and his desire for more wins in the future.
Defending champion Alexei Popyrin defeated former world number one Daniil Medvedev 5-7 6-4 6-4 to set up a match with fifth seed Holger Rune. Meanwhile, 26th seed Alex Michelsen of the United States beat third seed Lorenzo Musetti 3-6 7-6 (7-4) 6-4, leading to a potential match against either Learner Tien or Reilly Opelka in the next round.
Eighth seed Casper Ruud secured a spot in the fourth round by defeating Nuno Borges 7-6 6-4 and will face 11th seed Karen Khachanov, who overcame Emilio Nava 6-7 6-4 6-1.
