Controversial 'Superman' Film Ignites 'Woke' Clash among Ben Shapiro, Hasan Piker

Whether the movie "Superman," which had a successful opening weekend at the box office, symbolizes the unrest in the Middle East has sparked discussions among political figures on both sides, including Ben Shapiro and Hasan Piker, despite the director's denial of any direct reference.

Director James Gunn has refuted claims that the movie serves as a metaphor for Middle East conflicts. Left- and right-wing viewers have debated whether the fictional conflict between nations Boravia and Jarhanpur, where Superman prevents Boravia from invading Jarhanpur, represents Israel and Gaza.

Hasan Piker, a left-wing Twitch streamer, compared Boravia to Israel, highlighting its military power and alliance with the U.S., drawing parallels to Israel's actions in Gaza. Conservative commentator Ben Shapiro disagreed with this view, stating that the movie's conflict does not align with the Israel-Gaza situation.

Shapiro dismissed claims that the movie carries political messages about immigration, Russia, or Ukraine, attributing such interpretations to political bias. YouTuber Tim Pool also disagreed with the comparison, noting the portrayal of the countries in the movie as Eastern European and South Asian nations.

Director James Gunn clarified that the movie is not about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict but acknowledged its political undertones. Gunn emphasized that the movie is about morality and kindness, distancing it from real-world conflicts. Critics have drawn parallels between the movie's conflict and real-life situations, with some branding the film as "woke."

The movie "Superman" had a successful opening weekend, grossing $122 million domestically and $217 million worldwide. The film's positive reception marks a comeback for DC Studios, which had faced recent box office disappointments. "Superman" received favorable reviews, earning an 83% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, contributing to a successful summer box office season.
