Cubs catcher Miguel Amaya carted off field with leg injury
Miguel Amaya, the Chicago Cubs catcher, suffered a leg injury during his first game since May 24. The incident took place on Aug. 13 in the eighth inning of the Cubs' game against the Toronto Blue Jays. Amaya injured his leg while running to first base after hitting a ground ball to short, resulting in him being carted off the field.
Amaya had been on the 60-day injured list due to an oblique injury prior to this game. Despite the Cubs winning the game 4-1 and breaking a two-game losing streak, the injury overshadowed the victory. Amaya, who had a batting average of .280 with four home runs, was immediately taken off the field after the injury.
Cubs manager Craig Counsell informed reporters after the game that Amaya has a left ankle sprain and that X-rays showed no fractures. Amaya will return to the injured list due to the injury. Counsell expressed the team's sentiment, saying, "We're going to miss him."
