Derry secures second place by defeating 10-man Rovers.

Derry City defeated Shamrock Rovers 2-1 at the Brandywell, securing European football for next season. Brandon Fleming scored the first goal, and Sadou Diallo added a second, extending Derry's unbeaten league run to nine games. This victory marks Derry's first win over Rovers since March 2023, giving them a two-point lead over Shelbourne in third place before their final league game.

Despite losing three consecutive league games, Rovers can still clinch their fifth Premier Division title in six years with a point against Galway United. In the match, Fleming's cross looped over the Rovers goalkeeper for the opening goal. Rovers' chances were further diminished when Lee Grace received two quick yellow cards in the second half.

Diallo sealed Derry's win by scoring in the 87th minute after being set up by Duffy. Rovers managed a consolation goal in stoppage time through Rory Gaffney. Stephen Bradley, who arrived late after running the Dublin marathon, will lead Rovers in their quest to secure the title against Galway. If they don't succeed, they will have another opportunity in their final game against Sligo Rovers.

Derry will conclude their league campaign against Cork City at Turner's Cross on November 1 at 16:30 GMT.
