Doctor apologizes for controversial comment on Texas flood, loses job

A pediatrician named Dr. Christina Propst publicly apologized after being let go from Blue Fish Pediatrics, a clinic chain affiliated with a Houston hospital system. This decision came after a social media post where she wished voters in a Donald Trump-supporting county in central Texas to "get what they voted for" during flash flooding that resulted in nearly 120 deaths, including children.

In her apology, Dr. Propst expressed deep regret for causing pain with her comment and clarified that it was not in response to the tragic loss of lives in central Texas. The post that led to her departure from Blue Fish Pediatrics referenced Kerr county, Texas, voting for Trump and denying climate change, which she linked to the devastating flooding in the area.

Residents of Kerr county shared stories of losing their homes and belongings in the flood and expressed frustration over the lack of preparedness from authorities. The post eventually reached Blue Fish Pediatrics, leading to Dr. Propst being placed on leave and later no longer employed by the clinic chain.

The clinic chain condemned the politicization of tragedy in Dr. Propst's post, emphasizing that it did not align with their values of compassion for every child and family. While it was not specified whether Dr. Propst resigned or was dismissed, she issued another apology acknowledging the offense caused by her post.

The post came at a sensitive time following the devastating flash flooding in Texas, where over 170 people were reported missing and at least 119 confirmed dead. Dr. Propst, a New York native and Princeton University graduate, had been with Blue Fish Pediatrics since 2018, with a background in pediatrics and years of experience in Houston.
