Elmo Speaks Out Against Antisemitic Posts by Hacker

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent covers a wide range of stories. Whether investigating Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing documentaries like 'The A Word', focusing on American women advocating for reproductive rights, the publication emphasizes the importance of separating facts from messaging.

Amid the critical juncture in US history, The Independent stresses the need for on-the-ground reporters. Donations support sending journalists to cover both sides of the story. The publication, trusted by Americans across the political spectrum, opts not to restrict access to reporting and analysis with paywalls, believing quality journalism should be accessible to all.

Beloved Sesame Street character Elmo addressed the public after his X account was hacked to share antisemitic content. Following the incident, Elmo expressed gratitude for the support received. The account, which has over 600,000 followers, was compromised by a hacker who posted offensive messages, including antisemitic and racist content, as well as calling President Donald Trump "[Benjamin] Netanyahu’s puppet" and advocating for violence against Jews.

A spokesperson for Sesame Workshop, the organization behind Sesame Street, confirmed the hack and stated efforts were underway to regain control of the account. Elmo, a cherished figure on the children's show, has been a part of Sesame Street since the late 1960s and continues to be featured on Disney+.

All inappropriate posts have been removed. In response to a user's question about loving Elmo, X's AI chatbot Grok expressed admiration for Elmo's messages of kindness and friendship, highlighting their positive impact on the world.

Earlier this year, X faced a significant cyber attack linked to IP addresses in the Ukraine area, as noted by Elon Musk. Musk criticized Trump for his handling of the Epstein files investigation, amidst ongoing discussions among MAGA supporters. The Tesla CEO commented on a post by a user criticizing Trump's messaging on the Epstein case, urging the release of promised files.

Democratic strategist David Axelrod suggested Trump's involvement in the release of files related to Jeffrey Epstein. Axelrod emphasized that attributing the decision solely to Pam Bondi might overlook Trump's potential influence on the matter, despite hesitance within the Right to acknowledge it.
