Elon Musk Supports 'Cancel Netflix' Movement: Details

X owner Elon Musk urged Netflix subscribers to cancel their memberships on Wednesday due to comments made by Hamish Steele, the director of a canceled Netflix animated series, about conservative activist Charlie Kirk. Musk also criticized Netflix's LGBTQ programming and diversity efforts.

Musk posted on X, quoting a right-wing account's call to "Cancel Netflix" in response to a report showing Netflix's efforts to increase diversity among directors and lead actors.

Steele's comments criticizing British Prime Minister Keir Starmer's tweet on Kirk's death led to calls for cancellation. A screenshot shared on X by Libs of TikTok showed Steele allegedly making disrespectful remarks about a Nazi's death.

Musk shared posts condemning the animated show "Dead End: Paranormal Park" for promoting pro-trans content to children. He encouraged canceling Netflix for the sake of children's well-being.

The Netflix stock fell by 2.2% to $1,173.12 on Wednesday afternoon.

"Dead End: Paranormal Park" was an animated comedy series on Netflix from June to October 2022. It featured LGBTQ+ themes and positive reviews. Steele announced the show's cancellation in January 2023, thanking Netflix for the opportunity to tell the characters' story.

Critics of Netflix's LGBTQ content accused the platform of pushing a "woke" agenda on children. Clips from various shows, including "Dead End: Paranormal Park," were shared to support the boycott.

Steele responded to the controversy on Bluesky, denying the accusations and expressing concern over receiving hateful messages. He clarified that Netflix was not currently promoting the show and addressed false claims about celebrating Kirk's death.
