Emma Raducanu Defeated by Amanda Anisimova at Canadian Open
Britain's Emma Raducanu lost to Wimbledon finalist Amanda Anisimova in the Canadian Open third round, winning only three games. Raducanu had previously beaten Anisimova at the Australian Open and Miami Open but struggled in this match, only holding serve twice in a 6-2 6-1 defeat. Anisimova hit 29 winners compared to Raducanu's five and the British player made 22 unforced errors.
Anisimova, who had a heavy defeat in her first Grand Slam final recently, has won 14 of her last 17 matches, making her one of the WTA Tour's in-form players. She will face Elina Svitolina in the fourth round after Svitolina defeated Anna Kalinskaya 6-1 6-1.
Naomi Osaka, a four-time Grand Slam champion, won against Jelena Ostapenko with a score of 6-2 6-4. Osaka will play Anastasia Sevastova in the next round after Sevastova upset defending champion Jessica Pegula. Pegula was on an 11-match winning streak but struggled in the deciding set against Sevastova.
In the men's event, seventh seed Andrey Rublev came back to beat Lorenzo Sonego 5-7 6-4 6-3. Rublev will face Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the next round after Fokina defeated Jakub Mensik. American Taylor Fritz also advanced with a win over Gabriel Diallo.
