Louisiana’s Attorney General Liz Murrill has filed a lawsuit against the online gaming platform Roblox, alleging it fails to protect children from online predators and is a haven for pedophiles. The suit was lodged in Louisiana’s 21st Judicial District, claiming that Roblox Corporation negligently designed its platform without a robust age verification process.

The lawsuit states that millions of users can easily create accounts with false birthdays, enabling adults to pose as children and minors to bypass age-related controls. Approximately 20% of Roblox's 82 million users are under nine years old, as per the company's annual report.

Roblox offers a wide range of user-designed games and experiences, some of which include real-time messaging and voice chat for users aged 13 and above. The lawsuit highlights sexually explicit in-game experiences on the platform, such as references to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and games related to individuals involved in criminal activities.

The legal action alleges that a man arrested in Louisiana for possessing child sexual abuse material was using Roblox at the time of his arrest, exploiting minors by using voice-altering technology. The suit accuses Roblox of unfair trade practices, negligence, and unjust enrichment, seeking a permanent order to prevent the company from violating Louisiana law.

In response to the lawsuit, Roblox declined to comment on the allegations, citing ongoing legal proceedings. The company stated that it invests significant resources in detecting and preventing inappropriate content and behavior on its platform.

Roblox is facing multiple lawsuits related to child safety and exploitation, including a federal case in Texas involving the sexual exploitation of an 8-year-old boy. The platform is under bipartisan scrutiny, with calls for increased child safety measures and the resignation of its CEO, David Baszucki.
