Legendary actor, director, and producer Diane Keaton, known for her roles in The Godfather franchise and 'The First Wives Club,' passed away in California on Saturday.

A spokesperson informed People magazine that no further details are available at this time, and Keaton's family has requested privacy.

Keaton, who had not been in the public eye recently, died unexpectedly, with no prior reports of illness.

Throughout her more than five-decade career in film and television, Keaton starred in various acclaimed productions, including The Godfather, Father of the Bride, The First Wives Club, Something’s Gotta Give, and Book Club.

Born as Diane Hall on January 5, 1946, Keaton began her career in the original 1968 Broadway production of Hair, later earning a Tony nomination for her role in Woody Allen's Play It Again, Sam.

She collaborated with Allen on multiple films, including Annie Hall, for which she won an Academy Award, and received nominations for Reds, Marvin’s Room, and Something’s Gotta Give.

Keaton's acting career began in 1970 with the romcom Lovers and Other Strangers, and she made her TV debut in Love, American Style the same year. She also received an Emmy nomination for her role in the TV movie Amelia Earhart: The Final Flight in 1995.

In addition to acting, Keaton directed documentaries and films, including Heaven, Unstrung Heroes, and Hanging Up, and her latest acting credit was in the 2024 comedy Summer Camp.

A dedicated animal welfare activist and vegetarian for over 25 years, Keaton was remembered fondly by Hollywood colleagues, including Ben Stiller, Bette Midler, Mary Steenbergurgen, Robert de Niro, Steve Martin, and Leonardo DiCaprio.

Keaton is survived by her two children, Dexter and Duke.
