Exploring Dwight 'Bo' Lamar's Lakers Jersey Legacy

The Los Angeles Lakers have had a total of 506 players suit up for them through the 2024-25 season, dating back to their time in Minneapolis. Some players were forgettable, some were serviceable, some were good, and a few were legendary.

As the Lakers begin their 80th season since being founded in 1946 as the Detroit Gems in the National Basketball League, LeBron Wire is reviewing every player who has worn their jersey, whether it was the purple and gold or the earlier Midwest uniforms.

Dwight "Bo" Lamar was a standout at the University of Southwestern Louisiana (now the University of Louisiana at Lafayette), averaging 33.8 points and 5.1 assists per game over three seasons. In 1973, he was drafted by the Detroit Pistons but chose to join the American Basketball Association (ABA) as the No. 1 pick for the San Diego Conquistadors.

Standing at 6 feet 1 inch, Lamar averaged 19.7 points and 4.4 assists per game in the ABA while playing for the Conquistadors, San Diego Sails, and Indiana Pacers. After the ABA disbanded in 1976, he was traded to the Lakers by the Pacers. Lamar played one season with the Lakers in 1976-77, averaging 7.1 points and 2.5 assists per game before retiring from professional basketball.
