Exploring Joe Biden's Inner Circle Amid Cognitive Decline Cover-Up Probe

Several advisers to Joe Biden will be questioned by Republicans on Capitol Hill this month as part of an examination of a potential cover-up of the former president's mental health. The witness list includes top figures in the Biden White House, such as aides with direct access to the residence where the president lived with Jill Biden, those managing Biden's daily schedule, and others close to the first lady.

Oversight Chairman Rep. James Comer has called most of Biden's inner circle to Capitol Hill for questioning, using subpoena power on those who did not appear voluntarily. More interviews may follow as Comer sent letters to additional aides last week, seeking information for an investigation into the alleged cover-up of Biden's cognitive decline.

Dr. Kevin O'Connor, Biden's personal physician, is at the center of the cover-up claims and was the first to be subpoenaed by House Republicans to address questions about Biden's health decline. O'Connor, a retired US Army colonel, served in the White House Medical Unit under previous administrations and became Biden's physician in 2021.

Anthony Bernal, a longtime aide to the Bidens, was issued a subpoena by Republicans after missing an appearance before the Oversight Committee. Bernal, known as Jill Biden's 'work husband,' has been with the Bidens since Joe Biden's vice presidency and was tasked with various responsibilities in the White House.

Steve Ricchetti, counselor to President Joe Biden, has been a significant figure in Biden's circle since joining his vice-presidential staff in 2012. Ricchetti, along with other aides, was accused of shielding the president from negative poll numbers and concerns about his health. He also played a crucial role in liaising with Capitol Hill for legislative matters.

Mike Donilon, the chief strategist of Biden's 2024 campaign, was criticized for reportedly accepting a $4 million job and being seen as Biden's 'alter-ego.' Donilon, a trusted advisor to Biden, faced accusations of overlooking the president's health issues, with his future linked to Biden's success.

Bruce Reed, known as Biden's 'AI whisperer,' oversaw policy planning in the Biden administration. Reed, along with other key aides, was involved in preparing Biden for significant events and engaging with Republicans on policy matters. He had a long career in government service, including working for President Clinton and serving as chief of staff during Biden's vice presidency.

Anita Dunn, the former communications director, faced criticism for the handling of Biden's debate with Trump. Dunn, who left the White House in July 2024, was part of Biden's campaign advisory team and is married to Biden's personal lawyer, Bob Bauer. Dunn and Bauer became close to Biden in 2015 when he was considering a presidential bid.

The examination of Biden's inner circle comes amid concerns raised about a potential cover-up of the former president's cognitive decline and health issues. The investigation involves key aides who had direct access to Biden and played significant roles in his administration. The questioning by Republicans on Capitol Hill aims to shed light on the handling of information related to Biden's health during his time in office.
