Fernando Alonso Tops Charles Leclerc in Singapore Grand Prix Practice

The collision between Ferrari's Charles Leclerc and McLaren's Lando Norris in the pit lane occurred during the Singapore Grand Prix on 3-5 October, with the race starting at 13:00 BST on Sunday.

Live coverage of the event is available on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra and Sports Extra 2, with live text updates on the BBC Sport website and app.

McLaren's Lando Norris expressed disappointment after a collision in the pit lane during Friday practice at the Singapore Grand Prix. Norris, who set the fifth fastest time, was slower than his teammate Oscar Piastri, the championship leader by 25 points.

Norris, the winner of last year's Singapore Grand Prix, described the day as difficult, mentioning struggles with the car and the need for improvement. He acknowledged Piastri's speed and admitted to not performing well.

Before setting his fastest lap, Norris was hit by Leclerc in the pit lane, resulting in damage to his car's front wing. Ferrari was fined 10,000 euros for an unsafe release following the incident.

The practice session was marked by two red flags due to crashes by George Russell of Mercedes and Liam Lawson of Racing Bulls. Russell's car required a system reset after hitting the barriers, while Lawson broke his wheels in a separate incident.

Piastri, who had a challenging weekend in Baku, appeared confident during the Singapore Grand Prix practice sessions. Red Bull also had a positive day, with Verstappen expressing satisfaction with the car's performance.

Alonso of Aston Martin showed promising results throughout the day, despite the team's expected slip in performance on Saturday. He highlighted the need for fine-tuning the car setup to address understeer issues.

Other notable performances included Lance Stroll in sixth place, Esteban Ocon of Haas, Carlos Sainz of Williams, and Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton of Ferrari. Hamilton expressed contentment with the day's progress and improvements made during the sessions.
