Gina Carano settles Disney lawsuit, Elon Musk funded.
Actor Gina Carano has reached a settlement with Disney and Lucasfilm following her dismissal from The Mandalorian in February 2021. Carano, 41, was fired after playing Cara Dune in two seasons of the Disney+ Star Wars series.
The lawsuit was filed by Carano, who claimed she was wrongfully terminated for expressing her political views. The termination came after she referenced the Nazis' treatment of Jewish people while discussing political differences in the US.
In a statement, Lucasfilm had criticized Carano's social media posts for denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities. However, Carano announced on X that she had reached an agreement with Disney/Lucasfilm, aiming for a positive outcome for all parties involved.
The financial details of the settlement have not been disclosed. Carano had initially sought $75,000 in damages when filing the lawsuit in the Californian District Court. She expressed gratitude to Elon Musk for funding her legal battle, despite never having met him.
Carano, known for her roles in various Hollywood franchises, including Fast & Furious 6 and Deadpool, expressed excitement for the future. Lucasfilm responded to the settlement by stating their respect for Carano and their interest in potential future collaborations with her.
