Robert Redford, the Hollywood actor and Oscar-winning director, has passed away at the age of 89. His death was confirmed by Cindi Berger, the chief executive of the publicity firm Rogers & Cowan PMK. Redford died at his home in Utah, surrounded by loved ones. The specific cause of his death was not disclosed.

Redford, known for his roles in films like Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, was born in Santa Monica, California, in 1936. He began his acting career in the 1960s and gained global fame for his roles as a respected actor and a sex symbol. Throughout his six-decade career, he starred in over 50 movies, with some of his notable works being collaborations with Paul Newman in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and The Sting.

Apart from his acting career, Redford also ventured into directing films, with his directorial debut Ordinary People winning the Academy Award for Best Picture. He continued directing several successful films and received the Academy Honorary Award in 2002 for his contributions to the film industry.

In addition to his work in the entertainment industry, Redford was known for his activism in environmental causes. He used his influence to raise awareness about clean energy and supported initiatives like a wildlife preserve in Utah. Redford was survived by his wife, Sibylle Szaggars, two daughters, and seven grandchildren.

In 2018, Redford announced his retirement from acting after the release of his final film, The Old Man & The Gun. Reflecting on his career, he expressed gratitude for the positive experiences and impact he had in the industry.
