Joaquin Phoenix Regrets 'Horrible' Interview, Vows Never to Repeat

Joaquin Phoenix has addressed his controversial appearance on David Letterman's talk show in 2009 during a recent interview on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. The Oscar-winning actor explained that his appearance, where he was in character from the mockumentary "I'm Still Here," led many to believe he was having a mental breakdown.

Phoenix recalled that he initially did the pre-interview in character and wanted a strong reaction from Letterman. He admitted that the interview was uncomfortable and regrettable, stating that it was one of the worst nights of his life. Phoenix later apologized to Letterman in 2010 during another appearance on the show.

Letterman later confirmed that he was aware of the act beforehand and enjoyed the experience. Phoenix can be seen in the upcoming film "Eddington," directed by Ari Aster, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival to critical acclaim. The movie is described as a state-of-the-nation comedy and stars Pedro Pascal and Emma Stone alongside Phoenix.

"Eddington" is set for a US theatrical release on July 18, with a UK release date yet to be announced.
