The Israeli military is monitoring actions against Druze civilians, while Syria claims its forces are responding to the source of fire in Sweida, a southern city.
Israeli airstrikes hit the Syrian military headquarters in Damascus amid renewed clashes in the country. Two warning missiles from an Israeli reconnaissance aircraft targeted the gate of the Ministry of Defence, causing injuries to two civilians, as reported by state-owned Elekhbariya TV and Reuters.
In Sweida, where the Druze faith is prominent, Israeli airstrikes targeted security and army vehicles for the third consecutive day. The Israeli military confirmed striking the entrance gate in Damascus and stated it would monitor actions against Druze civilians in southern Syria. Sweida and nearby villages faced heavy artillery and mortar fire on Wednesday.
The clashes signified the breakdown of a ceasefire between Syrian government forces and Druze armed groups, prompting Israel to increase its involvement to protect the Druze groups. Syria accused militias in Sweida of violating a ceasefire agreement reached a day earlier and stated its military forces were responding to the source of fire in the city while ensuring the safety of residents.
Israel's defense minister, Israel Katz, indicated that Israeli military strikes on Syrian forces would continue until they withdraw and emphasized leaving the Druze community unharmed.
