Katie Ledecky's Exciting 800m Victory at World Championships
Katie Ledecky secured her seventh world title in the 800-meter freestyle on Saturday, August 2 at the World Swimming Championships. She narrowly beat surprise contender Lani Pallister in a close race, with her main rival Summer McIntosh finishing third.
After the race, Ledecky commented, "I kind of figured it was going to be more than just Summer. Definitely the fastest field in the 800 ever... I'm happy I could come out on top." McIntosh, who finished 1.67 seconds behind Ledecky, aimed to match Michael Phelps's record of five individual gold medals at a single world championship.
Ledecky has been a dominant force in the women's 800-meter freestyle for over a decade, clinching gold in the event in four consecutive Olympic Games and six consecutive World Championships. The rising Canadian star, McIntosh, had been closing in on Ledecky, leading to their showdown at the 2025 World Aquatics Championships in Singapore.
The 2025 World Swimming Championships in Singapore are ongoing until August 3 and are available for live streaming on Peacock, starting at 7 a.m. ET each day. Saturday's schedule includes six finals, with the women's 800m freestyle being a highly anticipated event.
