Leeds Set to Sign Sean Longstaff from Newcastle

Leeds United have agreed in principle to sign Sean Longstaff from Newcastle United. The deal involves an upfront payment of £12 million for the central midfielder, with an additional £3 million in potential add-ons. These add-ons include conditions such as Daniel Farke's team avoiding relegation from the Premier League in the upcoming season.

According to The Athletic's report on July 7, Leeds made an offer to Newcastle worth £10 million plus £2 million in add-ons. This was the third proposal made by Leeds for the 27-year-old player. Leeds had other transfer options in mind if they were unable to secure Longstaff's move within their budget.

Longstaff, who is in the final year of his contract with Newcastle, had already agreed to personal terms with Leeds. Discussions for a new contract with Newcastle took place in winter 2024, but Longstaff has seen limited playtime since then.

As a product of Newcastle's academy, Longstaff preferred to see his childhood club compensated rather than leaving as a free agent next summer. Newcastle had extended Longstaff's contract through June 2026 by exercising a one-year extension option last season.

Longstaff's extensive experience in the Premier League, with 171 appearances over seven years, was a key factor that attracted Leeds. He has primarily played as a central midfielder for Newcastle, with roles ranging from defensive to attacking duties.
