Texas Lineman Loses Both Arms in Power Cable Accident

Dakota Hutson, a Texas lineman, suffered severe injuries after being shocked by a power cable, resulting in the loss of both his arms. The incident, which occurred in late April, exposed him to over 7,000 volts from a transformer he believed was deactivated. Hutson endured extensive burns to his upper body and spent more than a month in the hospital, facing life-threatening situations, including severe bleeding due to an artery rupture. As a result, doctors had to amputate most of both his arms.

Hutson, a father of five and an avid outdoorsman, expressed concerns about his ability to care for his children following the accident. His wife, Kimberly, also shared her fears about losing him. Despite the challenges, Hutson considers himself fortunate to be alive and is grateful for the opportunity to be with his family.

After undergoing amputation and a prolonged hospital stay, Hutson received prosthetic arms to aid in his recovery. While still adjusting to the prosthetics, he has managed to perform basic tasks like dressing himself. Although he worries about his ability to engage in activities such as car mechanics and hunting, Hutson views the prosthetics as a new beginning, enabling him to regain some independence.

Reflecting on the incident, Hutson now appreciates the time he can spend with his family, a luxury he did not have while working on powerlines. He considers the accident a blessing in disguise, allowing him to prioritize being present for his children. Hutson's positive outlook on his recovery underscores his resilience in the face of adversity.
