Liverpool in £120MILLION Bid for Alexander Isak; Backup Plan Ready
Liverpool has reportedly shown interest in signing Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak for around £120 million. The club has not made a formal offer yet, knowing that Newcastle is not willing to sell their star player. Isak, 25, scored 23 league goals last season, second only to Liverpool's Mohamed Salah. Since joining Newcastle from Real Sociedad in 2022 for £60 million, Isak has scored 62 goals in 109 appearances, helping the team win the Carabao Cup in March, their first major trophy in 70 years.
Despite Newcastle's reluctance to sell Isak, Liverpool is considering Eintracht Frankfurt's Hugo Ekitike as an alternative option. However, Newcastle is also interested in Ekitike. Liverpool's initial £70 million bid for Isak was rejected by Newcastle. Liverpool aims to strengthen its squad by signing top players, having already broken the British transfer record by acquiring Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen for a total of £185 million.
Liverpool is prioritizing the recruitment of a top striker, with discussions about Darwin Nunez's potential departure gaining momentum. Napoli and Al-Hilal are interested in Nunez, but Liverpool is seeking around £70 million for the Uruguayan striker. The club also turned down a £58.6 million offer from Bayern Munich for winger Luis Diaz, valuing him at £86 million. Liverpool has no intention of selling Diaz this summer, as his contract runs until 2027.
The potential sales of Nunez and Diaz could help fund the move for Isak to Liverpool. Isak is seen as a key target for Liverpool this summer, and the club is willing to make significant financial investments to secure his services.
