Luis Suarez handed three-game ban for spitting

Luis Suarez joined Inter Miami in 2024

Inter Miami's striker Luis Suarez received an additional three-game ban for spitting on a Seattle Sounders staff member.

The Leagues Cup Disciplinary Committee initially issued Suarez a six-match ban for the incident following the League Cup final defeat on August 31. However, this ban only applied to future editions of that tournament.

Major League Soccer has now imposed a three-match ban on Suarez, causing him to miss upcoming matches against Charlotte FC, DC United, and Seattle in Miami's domestic campaign.

The final, where Miami lost 3-0, took place at Lumen Field in Seattle. A scuffle broke out involving players from both teams, during which Suarez grabbed Sounders midfielder Obed Vargas and spat on security director Gene Ramirez.

In response to the incident, Suarez posted on Instagram, acknowledging the tension and frustration of the moment and expressing regret for his actions. He admitted his mistake, apologized sincerely, and emphasized that his behavior did not reflect the image he wanted to portray to his family and club.

Suarez has a history of disciplinary issues, having previously received an eight-match ban from the Football Association in 2011 for racially abusing Manchester United defender Patrice Evra. Additionally, he has faced bans at Ajax, Uruguay, and Liverpool for biting opponents.
