Texas Man Mauled to Death by His Pit Bulls

A man in Texas, identified as Jose 'Eddie' Heriberto Padron Castillo, 45, was attacked and killed by his pit bulls at his home in Bacliff on Sunday. The incident occurred when Castillo tried to prevent his dogs from chasing a passing golf cart, according to the Galveston County Sheriff's Office.

Surveillance footage captured a neighbor, Jesus Excontitta, responding to Castillo's cries for help with a machete. Excontitta attempted to rescue Castillo by striking the dogs to stop the attack. Despite his efforts, one of the dogs remained latched onto Castillo's arm until law enforcement arrived.

When deputies reached the scene, one dog was still attacking Castillo. To protect the victim, a deputy shot the dog, causing it to retreat. Despite receiving CPR at a local hospital, Castillo succumbed to his injuries.

The dogs involved in the attack were euthanized by Galveston County Animal Control. The sheriff's office mentioned previous reports of aggressive dogs in the area but noted that immediate action was necessary to save Castillo's life.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to assist with Castillo's funeral expenses. Described as a beloved family member and friend, Castillo is remembered for his warm personality and kindness towards others.
