Last month's alleged shooting at an occupied vehicle in San Jose led to the arrest of a suspect for attempted murder last week, authorities announced on Tuesday.

The incident occurred on September 2 on Minnesota Avenue, south of Willow Street, in San Jose's Tamien neighborhood. The San Jose Police Department reported that officers discovered bullet casings and other evidence at the scene, but both the victims and suspects had already left.

During the investigation, officers located the victims, a man and a woman, along with the vehicle they used to escape, which had multiple bullet holes.

The man was injured from the shooting and was taken to a hospital, while the woman was unharmed. Police revealed that the victims had been involved in a dispute with another man who then shot at them multiple times.

The suspect was identified as 38-year-old San Jose resident Michael Alvarez during the investigation. On October 8, Alvarez barricaded himself in a home near Willow Street and Minnesota Avenue when officers tried to serve arrest and search warrants. Special operations officers intervened, using a chemical agent to prompt Alvarez's surrender, leading to his arrest.

A search of Alvarez's residence uncovered a homemade firearm, a 3-D printer for manufacturing firearms, ammunition, and various narcotics. Alvarez was charged with attempted murder, firearm offenses, and drug-related crimes and was booked at the Santa Clara County Main Jail.

Police urged anyone with information on this case or similar incidents to contact Detective Nishimura #4732 of the Police Department's assault unit at 4732@sanjoseca.gov or 408-277-4161.
