Man Utd set to sign Emi Martinez; Senne Lammens deal in jeopardy.
Manchester United Reportedly Agrees Personal Terms with Aston Villa Goalkeeper
Manchester United has reportedly reached an agreement on personal terms with Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez. The club is preparing a £40 million bid as the transfer window deadline approaches. Despite previous concerns about his wages and temperament, Martinez, an Argentina international turning 33 soon, has emerged as a target for United.
According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, United recently approached Villa and Martinez's representatives. An agreement on terms has been reached between the two parties. Talks with Royal Antwerp's Senne Lammens are ongoing, but United is seeking cover in case the £20 million move for the Belgian falls through with less than 48 hours left in the window.
Martinez, a World Cup winner with Argentina in 2022, has been a key player for Villa under Unai Emery. Villa is considering selling him to address Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) concerns if the price is right. United manager Ruben Amorim is reportedly losing faith in current goalkeepers Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir.
Onana, who cost £43 million in 2023, has had limited playing time this season. Bayindir has started in all three of United's Premier League games. Villa is looking to make a late move for West Ham midfielder Lucas Paqueta, who is open to leaving for European football after a challenging year. United is also linked with Royal Antwerp goalkeeper Senne Lammens. Paqueta, previously targeted by Manchester City, may be allowed to leave West Ham if suitable offers are received.
