Mitch Marner Embraces Fresh Start in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS — Before leaving home, Mitch Marner revisited a childhood rink at Vaughan Sports Village. He trained with his long-time skills coach, Rob Desveaux, who had guided him since he was 4 years old. Despite suggestions to find a younger coach, Marner continued to work with Coach Rob, whom he believes understands his game the best.

During recent summer sessions, Marner appeared burdened and frustrated, unlike the elation he used to feel. This led to his decision to leave Toronto, signing an eight-year, $96 million contract with the Vegas Golden Knights. Marner faced scrutiny for his comments and actions, including receiving a death threat after the Leafs were eliminated from the playoffs.

Marner's move to Vegas marked a new chapter in his career. He found excitement and a sense of freedom, reclaiming his passion for the game. The Golden Knights welcomed Marner as a key addition to their roster, alongside other star players like Jack Eichel and Noah Hanifin.

Marner's transition to Vegas symbolized a fresh start and a shift in perspective. Becoming a father to his son Miles in May brought new joy and purpose to his life. Marner, along with his wife Steph, embraced their new life in Summerlin, looking forward to supporting their son in his own pursuits and passions.
