Prosecutors Considering Further Charges in Baby Deaths Case

Prosecutors are evaluating the possibility of additional charges against Lucy Letby, a former neonatal nurse convicted of murdering seven babies and attempting to harm seven others.

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) received a comprehensive file of evidence from Cheshire Police related to incidents at the Countess of Chester Hospital and Liverpool Women's Hospital.

Letby, 35, is currently serving 15 life sentences for her previous convictions.

Cheshire Police have been investigating potential wrongdoing by Letby since 2012, encompassing her work and training in Liverpool. The investigation, known as Operation Hummingbird, focuses on deaths and non-fatal collapses of babies at the neonatal units of both hospitals.

The exact nature and number of potential new offenses remain undisclosed, and the CPS has not announced a timeline for their decision on pursuing additional charges.

In a separate development, three former senior managers at the Countess of Chester Hospital were arrested on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter.
