MSNBC corrects false claim about Gaza boy's death by Israeli forces

MSNBC reported on a Palestinian boy who was initially believed to have been killed by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) but was later found alive.

On Tuesday, MSNBC corrected its earlier report which falsely claimed that a young boy in Gaza had been killed by the IDF during a humanitarian aid distribution. The network had aired claims made by Anthony Aguilar, a former contractor for the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) and a retired U.S. Army veteran, who stated that he witnessed a boy named "Amir" being shot by IDF forces on May 28. The child was later discovered to be alive, prompting GHF to request an update from MSNBC.

Host Chris Hayes of the show "All In" informed viewers about the correction, mentioning that the boy Aguilar had spoken of was not killed as previously claimed. The GHF confirmed that the child, identified as Abdul Rahim Muhammad Hamden or "Abboud," was alive and had been safely evacuated from Gaza with his mother.

Aguilar, who had been terminated by GHF in June, alleged that after distributing food supplies, the boy kissed his hand and face in gratitude before returning to a group of Palestinians who were later dispersed by IDF actions. Aguilar claimed that shots were fired after the Palestinians left, resulting in injuries to Abboud and others.

GHF conducted an investigation to identify the boy and ascertain the truth of the incident. Through interviews with local Palestinians and the use of facial recognition software and biometric data, GHF confirmed the identities of Abboud, his mother, and other relatives.
