
Multiple critically hurt as car plows into Los Angeles crowd
At least 28 people were injured when a vehicle struck a crowd on Santa Monica Boulevard in Los Angeles. The incident took place at 02:00 local time (09:00 GMT) near a nightclub on North Vermont Avenue, close to the intersection with Santa Monica Boulevard, known for its nightlife.
According to the LA Fire Department (LAFD), seven people sustained critical injuries and six are in serious condition. LAFD Captain Adam VanGerpen mentioned that one of the injured individuals had a bullet wound, with witnesses reporting hearing gunshots. The matter is currently under police investigation.
Pictures from the scene depict a grey car on a sidewalk with debris scattered around and a significant police presence. The cause of the vehicle driving into the crowd remains unclear.
The injured have been transported to hospitals or trauma centers, as confirmed by Capt VanGerpen. He noted that most of the crowd comprised women waiting to enter the nightclub and described the scene as chaotic, with bystanders from the club assisting those affected.
