New Cadillac F1 Team Hires Pérez and Bottas
In 2026, Cadillac will join Formula 1 with a new team. Sergio Pérez and Valtteri Bottas are set to be the team's drivers for the upcoming season, with an official announcement expected next week.
Pérez previously raced for Oracle Red Bull, while Bottas was with Sauber in 2023 and 2024 and currently serves as a reserve driver for Mercedes. Cadillac has chosen experience by selecting these drivers, who have a total of 16 race wins and 106 podium finishes in their Formula 1 careers.
The decision to sign Pérez and Bottas came after Pérez's release from Red Bull due to performance issues compared to Max Verstappen. Bottas achieved success as a teammate of Lewis Hamilton during Mercedes' eight consecutive constructor championships from 2014 to 2021.
The new Cadillac team, led by Graeme Lowden, identified Pérez and Bottas as key targets early in the process. Cadillac plans to introduce its own engine by 2030 but will start in 2026 with a Ferrari power unit.
TWG Motorsports oversees Cadillac's racing efforts, with Mark Walter and Thomas Tull as co-chairs and Dan Towriss as CEO. TWG Motorsports includes Cadillac Formula 1, Andretti Global, Spire Motorsports, Wayne Taylor Racing, and Walkinshaw Andretti United.
Cadillac F1 was approved as the 11th team on the Formula 1 grid in March. Towriss stated that they are intensifying their efforts by expanding facilities, enhancing technologies, and recruiting top talent. The signings of Pérez and Bottas represent a significant step in strengthening the team.
