New kids' art show with Harry Hill and more premieres
A new "How To" art series for kids called "Go Get Arty" is set to premiere on CBBC and BBC iPlayer next month. Produced by Ranga Bee for the BBC, the show is hosted by the Kwapong family from YouTube, along with their animated sidekick Bristles the talking paintbrush, voiced by Harry Hill.
Each episode features the Kwapongs taking on Family Art Challenges, such as creating a table football stadium, making wearable wings, and crafting fire-breathing dragons. The show emphasizes the fun of creating rather than the end result, with lots of family banter and different creative approaches.
"Go Get Arty" includes Celebrity Drawalongs where famous personalities guide viewers in drawing their own sketches. Guests include Katherine Ryan, Romesh Ranganathan, Tom Allen, Aisling Bea, and others, along with artwork from various artists and celebrities.
The show offers different segments to inspire children to be creative, like spotting hyperrealistic art, guessing famous paintings, creating makeovers in the style of iconic artists, and engaging in fast art face-offs. The Kwapong family also visits The National Gallery to reimagine famous paintings.
Viewers get to see professional artists in action creating unique pieces, such as giant sculptures, food art, and toast portraits. Additionally, "Bristles’ Brief Guide To…" provides a humorous tour through art history with archive footage and a comic twist.
Sarah Muller, Senior Head of Commissioning 7+ at BBC Children’s and Education, highlights the show's aim to entertain and educate children through creativity. Benjamin Green, MD of Ranga Bee Productions, emphasizes the show's modern and funny approach to art, encouraging kids to express their creativity.
"Go Get Arty" is a Ranga Bee Production commissioned by BBC Children’s and Education. The Executive Producers are Shereen Docherty, Benjamin Green, and Romesh Ranganathan, with Nick Hutchings as Series Producer. Melissa Hardinge serves as the Senior Commissioning Editor for the BBC.
