New 'Legend of Zelda' Movie Casts Bo Bergason as Zelda

The video game series "The Legend of Zelda" will be made into a live-action film, announced Nintendo's game director Shigeru Miyamoto. Bo Bragason will play Princess Zelda, and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth will portray Link, as revealed on Nintendo's official social media accounts. Miyamoto, the creator of the original games and producer of the film, shared photos of the actors in costume. The movie is set to premiere in theaters on May 7, 2027.

Bragason is recognized for her role as Roxy in the 2024 Disney+ TV series "Renegade Nell," as well as appearances in "The Radleys" (2024) and the BBC One mini-series "Three Girls" (2017). Ainsworth starred in the 2025 film "Everything's Going to be Great" with Bryan Cranston and Allison Janney, the Canadian TV series "Son of a Critch," and provided the voice of "Pinocchio" in Disney's 2022 film.

Directed by Wes Ball of "The Maze Runner" trilogy, the film will be a collaboration between Sony and Nintendo. This adaptation follows the success of the 2023 "Super Mario Bros. Movie," another Nintendo franchise produced by Nintendo and Illumination, distributed by Universal Pictures. Universal Pictures is under NBCUniversal, the parent company of NBC News.
