New Wales Head Coach Steve Tandy Aims to Boost British & Irish Lions Representation

Steve Tandy, who recently became the head coach of the Wales national rugby team, returned to his hometown of Tonmawr after a successful stint with Scotland. Tandy, 45, led Scotland to victories in New Zealand and was appointed as Wales' head coach after a series of matches in July.

Tandy officially starts his role with Wales on 1 September. He visited Tonmawr to relax and recharge after a busy schedule that included games against Maori All Blacks, Fiji, and Samoa. Tandy, a former Ospreys flanker and coach, enjoyed watching the British & Irish Lions' final Test against Australia at his local club.

Tonmawr RFC, where Tandy visited, competes in Division Three West Central. Tandy expressed his pride in his village and the community spirit that shaped his passion for rugby. He acknowledged the support he received from both high-profile coaches and local mentors on his journey to becoming Wales' head coach.

Tandy hopes to improve Wales' performance, especially after a long losing streak. He aims to develop Welsh players to increase their chances of selection for future Lions tours. Tandy acknowledges the challenges of his new role, including increased media attention and scrutiny, but is determined to embrace them for personal growth and the team's development.
