New Woodstock GP surgery approved for development
Woodstock Surgery, located in its current building since the 1960s, is set to undergo a significant transformation with the approval of NHS funding for a new development.
The current facility is deemed unsustainable due to the high number of patients, prompting discussions about its future. This week, it was announced that NHS funding has been secured for a new site. Three potential locations within the town have been identified for the new surgery.
MP Calum Miller expressed confidence in the collaborative efforts between the GP surgery, local councils, the NHS, and Blenheim Estates. He emphasized the importance of all key partners working together to achieve the goal of a new surgery by the end of 2028.
The existing surgery is reported to be only 38% of the necessary size based on the patient volume. Doctors had to warn patients last year that they might have to close the patient list due to space constraints.
Miller highlighted the transformative impact a new surgery would have on healthcare services for residents in and around Woodstock. All three identified sites for potential development meet the required NHS criteria for funding, with efforts focused on selecting the most accessible option for local residents.
